News: Cadiz Makes Commitment to Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions for Desert Research

Cadiz Inc. (“Cadiz”, the “Company”) has pledged a gift to Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions (“Nicholas Institute”), a nationally recognized public policy think tank, as part of the Company’s commitments to ensure legacy benefits from the use of its property in California’s eastern Mojave Desert.

Based upon a financial pledge by Cadiz and upon commencement of Phase I of the Cadiz project, the Nicholas Institute will undertake new and expanded work on holistic land and water management strategies to facilitate long-term protection for species of special importance in water-stressed areas, including the Southwestern United States.

Ranging from development of economic and policy frameworks to guide land management strategies, to guidance on innovative use of habitat and water banking approaches, to the role of wildlife field research in assessing the regional impacts of land development and water recovery on species of special concern, work from the Nicholas Institute will help inform the difficult decisions that surround tradeoffs inherently present at the interface of water scarcity and species protection.

As part of the Nicholas Institute’s broad suite of work, Cadiz will be better equipped to achieve its long-term legacy objectives for the remaining surface estate that can benefit the Mojave Desert environment, economy and inhabitants. Beyond the boundaries of the Project, the gift to the Nicholas Institute will help increase knowledge on the emerging opportunities and barriers for habitat management and conservation presented by water recovery, storage, and delivery operations, region-wide.
